Window Types

Typically made up of three windows arranged in an outward-projecting alcove. Bay windows bathe the space in light and create a wonderful nook for reading, dining, or plants. Available in rectangular, polygonal, or arc shapes with a variety of materials and styles.

Usually comprised of three to six windows that follow an arced path, bow windows provide sweeping panoramic views and a striking architectural focal point. Recommended for spaces 7 feet or larger. Can even extend around a corner for a 90° view.

Hinged on one side, casement windows swing outward with a crank — ideal for hard-to-reach spots like above kitchen sinks. They open wider than any other style, providing excellent ventilation, and are fantastic insulators when closed.

A classic choice — two sashes slide vertically past each other in a user-friendly frame. The upper sash lowers to draw hot air out, the lower lifts to bring cooler air in. Both sashes tilt inward for easy cleaning. Popular in both historic and modern homes.

Horizontal sashes that glide smoothly to either side — like a double-hung window turned on its side. Large glass areas and a space-saving design make them ideal near patios and counters. Sashes lift or hinge out for easy cleaning from inside the home.

The stationary upper sash and operable lower sash make single-hung windows a cost-effective and energy-efficient choice. The bottom sash tilts inward for cleaning. Ideal in bedrooms and high-traffic areas, and a great budget-friendly alternative to double-hung windows.

Installed above a door or main window, transoms let light and air in even when the main opening is closed. They add an architectural element that creates fullness between windows and high ceilings. Available in operable and fixed styles, and can be custom-shaped.
